Parent Engagement
Volunteers
HLA openly encourages parent engagement and participation on campus. This can take the form of volunteering in classrooms, chaperoning field trips, participation in school events, and more. In order to become a parent volunteer, parents/guardians must fill out a New Volunteer Packet. Physical copies can be obtained in the front office upon request.
It is important to know that many parents receive level one volunteer status to chaperone a field trip or event. In order to attend multiple field trips or events, a level two status is required. Level two status requires fingerprint scanning and TB clearance. More information can be found on page 4 of the New Volunteer Packet.
Parent Teacher Conferences
At two points in the year, there are dedicated dates for parent teacher conferences. Your scholar’s teacher will be reaching out closer to the dates to determine individual times. Trimester 2 conferences are held for struggling scholars or upon parent request.
Trimester 1 conference dates: 11/1/23 – 11/3/2023
Trimester 2 conference dates: 2/29/24 – 3/1/24
Parent Faculty Organization (PFO) and School Site Council/District English Language Acquisition Committee (SSC/DELAC)
The HLA Parent Faculty Organization (PFO) and School Site Council (SSC)/District English Language Acquisition Committee (DELAC) meet regularly. These two committees are great ways to get more involved in your scholar’s education and have your voice heard in the workings of the campus.
PFO Meeting Dates: Second Tuesday of every month
SSC/DELAC Meetings: Third Wednesday of every month
Cultural events
HLA is proud to be a diverse campus having family/staff backgrounds from over 50 different countries. One way we celebrate these cultures is through fairs and events. The following events will be occurring this year. If you would like to support these events in any way, please contact Megan Gomez at megan.gomez@gcccharters.org.
Dia De Los Muertos: 11/3/23
Black History Celebration: 2/16/24
Multi-Cultural Fair: 4/20/24
